Cookies, plants, produce and more

Most larger cities (and some smaller ones) have a Farmers Market. They can range in size and offer several varieties of merchandise. Some are large enough to take up several city blocks!

In my area, the Farmers Market offers a wide array of merchandise from a diverse range of vendors. Of course, there is fresh produce and fruit, as well as all types of plants and flowers. Or maybe you are like me, and your specialty lies more in the kitchen area. At the Farmers Market, you can find anything from pies, cakes, cookies, jams, jellies, breads – you name it!

Our Farmers Market takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays from March through October. If you have a green thumb and can grow plants or produce, this may be the place for you. Being more a fan of the baked goods, I am planning to sign up to sell cookies, pies and breads next season.

Now, you may think, “Oh, that’s quaint, but not for me.” But, let’s do the math. I priced a lot of the goods at the Farmers Market this summer. Pies sell for $15 each. Cookies were selling 6 for $8.50 or $2.50 a piece!!!! One batch of cookies makes about four dozen. You could bank $68 on one batch of cookies alone! Are you seeing the revenue potential?

One local woman was so successful selling pies at the Farmers Market each week that a restaurant contracted her. She now has a successful catering business!
